SUMMARY:
The majority of bad breath originates within the mouth. However, it is possible that bad breath can come from other sources. Recent evidence has demonstrated a link between bad breath and adult periodontitis. The process of developing bad breath is similar to the progression of gingivitis to periodontoal disease. This paper is a review of articles that present correlations in the relationship between bad breath and adult periodontitis, analyzes current malodor tests, and available treatments regimens.
